Earthshot Prize FAQs

The search for the Winners of The Earthshot Prize2023 has begun and FFCC is proud to be an Official Nominator. Launched in 2020, The Earthshot Prize is an ambitious global prize for the environment, designed to discover, celebrate and scale the best solutions to help repair our planet.

As an Official Nominator, we are one of over 300 organisations from across the world, invited to submit nominations across all five Earthshot categories, selected for our ability to identify the most impactful solutions across all sectors, from grassroots to businesses.

We will be nominating individuals, communities, businesses and organisations whose solutions make the most progress towards achieving the five Earthshots – simple but ambitious goals which if achieved by 2030 will improve life for us all, for generations to come.

If you have any suggestions for solutions we, as an organisation, should nominate, please follow the link below. You can find out more about the Prize, our role as an Official Nominator, and the 5-stage process to selecting winners at www.earthshotprize.org.

Please look at https://earthshotprize.org and read carefully the FAQs below before getting in touch:

CAN FFCC NOMINATE A SOLUTION WHICH IS IN AN EARLY IDEA OR IDEATION PHASE?

No, the Nominated Solution must make an evidence-based contribution to the Earthshot(s) and have a clear proof of concept.

The Earthshot Prize will not accept Nominees that are in the early-idea or ideation phase. The Solution must have demonstrated proof of concept, with line of sight to rapid, significant impact in the next 3-5 years if scaled or replicated.

WILL THE NOMINATIONS SUBMITTED BE MADE PUBLIC?

We will contact the people/organisations who we choose to nominate directly to ensure they are happy for us to nominate them before putting them forward, but FFCC will not talk publicly about our nominations.

WILL I KNOW IF THE FFCC HAS NOMINATED ME OR MY ORGANISATION?

Yes, you will hear back from us by 18 Jan 2023 if we have chosen to nominate your solution. Official nominations deadline is end of January 2023.

IF I HAVEN’T HEARD FROM FFCC BY 18 January 2023, DOES THAT MEAN I HAVE NOT BEEN NOMINATED?

Yes.

CAN FFCC NOMINATE ONE SOLUTION IN MULTIPLE EARTHSHOT CATEGORIES?

Yes, Nominators can submit a Nominated Solution for consideration in one, multiple or all of the five Earthshot categories. The Earthshot Prize organisers recognise there are existing environment Solutions that can apply to multiple Earthshot challenge statements, so it is not a requirement for a proposed Solution to be directly based on one Earthshot.

CAN FFCC NOMINATE MORE THAN ONE SOLUTION?

Nominators can submit an unlimited number of Nominations that meet the criteria.

Do I have to go through FFCC in order to be nominated?

There are over 300 organisations who have been chosen to nominate, the FFCC is one of these and all organisations are listed on https://earthshotprize.org. The Earthshot Prize is not open to direct nominations.

ARE THE FIVE EARTHSHOTS THE SAME EVERY YEAR?

Yes, the Earthshots are goals for 2030. Each year the prizes will be awarded for the greatest contribution to reaching the Earthshots by 2030. This means that the Earthshots will stay the same, but the narrative, criteria and targets will be reviewed each year to reflect progress made.

WILL THE FFCC BE A NOMINATOR EVERY YEAR?

Nominators will be reviewed each year to ensure the most impactful Solutions are suggested from a diverse range countries and sectors.

WHAT IF THE SAME NOMINEE IS SUBMITTED BY MULTIPLE NOMINATORS?

Information will be consolidated, and the Nominee will only be considered once.
