Over the past 2 years, we've been asking citizens around the country what they really want from food in #TheFoodConversation – the UK's largest ever conversation about food. When you ask people about food, they tell you what kind of society they want to live in. Here, some of the citizens involved share what food means to them, why it's important, and what needs to change.
From climate and nature to health and community, farming connects to the things people care about. At the same time, farming in the UK is at a crossroads – with a healthy food and farming future in the balance. Our #FarmingVoices series asks farmers what they really think, they challenges they face, and the solutions at hand.
The Citizen Advisory Council are working with DEFRA on the development of the new Food Strategy. In November, the Council led 'What Works Here Inquiries' in four regions across the UK to find out what national government can learn from the work already happening around the country – and how they can support this work to be even more effective. Here, some of the people involved talk about the benefits of a more regional approach to food – and how we get there.
